Technics System 80's

Technics System 80's Hi-Fi System
return

The "System 80's" was a hi-fi system manufactured by the Technics Corporation of Japan. It was one of the earliest to feature an infrared wireless remote control system. This hi-fi consisted of the SE-A808 stereo power amplifier, ST-K808 tuner, RS-M45 cassette deck, SL-Q33 turntable, SB-R3 speakers, and SH-546 audio cabinet. It came with a SH-R808 infrared wireless remote control unit that provided full control functions including master volume control. The remote control technology used pulse code modulation (PCM) of the infrared signals.

The RS-M45 direct-drive cassette deck is very desirable today as it eliminates the rubber drive belt that usually powers the capstan flywheel. All the separates are usually for sale on eBay and they are tend to be very desirable. The price of the quartz-locked direct-drive turntable alone is worth over one hundred pounds, and therefore a complete system in good working order together with the original cabinet and speakers is worth in the order of hundreds of pounds depending upon condition.
